How Does Microneedling Work?

What Can I Expect During My Microneedling Treatment?

Microneedling is performed as a simple in-office procedure at Body Symmetry MD. We begin the treatment by cleansing the area and applying a topical numbing cream to ensure you feel comfortable throughout the procedure. The technician will then move the device gently and uniformly across your skin while the needles create micro-punctures. These punctures will act as delivery routes into the deeper layers of your skin if you choose to add one of our topical regenerative serums to your treatment.

Once your microneedling session is complete, you are free to go about your day with minimal restrictions. You may experience some mild redness, swelling or tenderness, but these effects resolve on their own within a day or so. It’s best to avoid strenuous exercise, sun exposure and wearing makeup for at least 24 hours following your treatment. You will receive thorough aftercare instructions from the skin specialist performing your microneedling procedure.

Microneedling With PRP And Growth Factors
Microneedling can also be combined with a variety of other treatments and serums to optimize the benefits of collagen and elastin growth. Microneedling with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), sometimes with the addition of a preparation containing growth factors, is a popular variation of the treatment.

What Is PRP?
PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, is a highly concentrated autologous serum derived from your own blood. A small amount of blood is drawn at the beginning of the treatment and processed in a centrifuge.
