IPL Photofacial

Look Younger and Refreshed With No Downtime

Sun damage and hyperpigmentation leave you looking fatigued, unhealthy and older than your years. With the right combination of cosmetic treatments, you can clear up your complexion and enjoy the confidence that comes with a younger, more refreshed look. Photorejuvenation using IPL (intense pulsed light) technology is a powerful tool in the battle against common skin imperfections, including uneven pigmentation, broken blood vessels and facial redness. These gentle yet effective treatments leave you with an even skin tone, with no need to take time away from your busy life to recover.

How Does IPL Photorejuvenation Work?

A photofacial uses rapid pulses of scattered light to target pigment (melanin) or hemoglobin (a red protein found in blood) below the surface of the skin. The light energy is converted into heat that destroys the unwanted pigment or blood vessels, causing the dark spot or redness to fade away over time. Unlike ablative laser resurfacing treatments, IPL photorejuvenation does not cause the skin to peel or flake aggressively. Instead, IPL treatments deliver gradual improvements in the skin over a series of sessions that require minimal recovery and have low risk of side effects. IPL has the added benefit of stimulating collagen production, which softens wrinkles, refines pores and smooths the skin surface in the most natural way.

What Are The Benefits of IPL?

IPL technology works for both men and women. It is effective in achieving results for a variety of skin conditions and imperfections, including:

Who Is A Candidate For An IPL Photofacial?

Ideal candidates for a photofacial have mild to moderate skin imperfections such as sunspots or spider veins. The higher the contrast between the skin and the blemish, the more effective the IPL treatment. Candidates with fair complexions typically respond best to IPL. IPL treatments are not recommended for use on darker skin tones, pregnant women and individuals who have used Accutane in the previous six months.

The medical aestheticians of Body Symmetry MD can utilize IPL on just about any area of the body, including:

What Can I Expect During My IPL Photofacial?

You will be asked to make certain preparations before your photofacial. In the weeks preceding your IPL treatment, avoid tanning (including tanning lotions or creams) and sun exposure. Discontinue the use of certain topical skincare products and medications, including tetracycline, doxycycline or Retin-A. Do not take aspirin or ibuprofen for a week prior to your appointment.

When you arrive at Body Symmetry MD, your aesthetician will cleanse your skin, provide you with protective eyewear and adjust the settings of the IPL device according to your needs. They will then apply a cooling gel to your skin and begin using the smooth handpiece to administer the pulses of light. Though you will feel a slight sting from the pulses, discomfort is minimal.

To finish the treatment, your aesthetician will clean your skin again to remove the gel. It’s common to experience temporary redness and swelling, but there is no required downtime after an IPL session. Most people can resume normal activity immediately after treatment, with only a few limitations. For best results, avoid intense exercise, do not touch or pick at the treated area, and protect your skin from the sun. You can resume your usual skin care directly after treatment.

What Results Can I Expect From An IPL Photofacial Treatment?

Photofacial results improve over time, with optimal results arising a few weeks after your last treatment. You may achieve your desired outcome after one session, but most patients require three to six treatments to maximize the benefits of IPL. A yearly touch-up or twice-yearly maintenance sessions will sustain your results long term. Sun protection and skin care are also essential for the longevity of your results.

The effects of aging and years of sun exposure can wreak havoc on your skin. At Body Symmetry MD, we are committed to providing the most advanced cosmetic treatments and adhering to the highest professional standards. Our Georgia IPL photofacial procedures are fast, minimally-invasive and require no downtime.
